Jeera Rice Recipe has been sitting in my “ To do” list for months and I made it recently. Its super easy and quick recipe. Jeera Rice can be one of the options for lunch box recipes and it tastes great with some spicy gravies. There are different versions of this Jeera rice recipe. I have customised it to our taste. I served this jeera rice with palak paneer.

Jeera Rice With Onion Recipe

Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time : 15 Minutes
Serves : 2 Nos


Basmati Rice 1 Cup
Onion 1 No
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Cinnamon A Small Stick
Cloves 2 Nos
Cardamom 2 Nos
Bay Leaves 1 No
Star Anise 1 No
Cumin Seeds 1.5 Teaspoon
Oil 1 Teaspoon
Ghee 1- 2 Teaspoons
Salt To Taste
Coriander Leaves 1 Teaspoon (Chopped

Preparation Method
Wash and soak the basmati rice for 20 minutes. Drain the water and keep it aside.

Jeera Rice Recipe Step 1
Heat a pressure cooker and add mixture of oil and ghee. When it is hot, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, bay leaves and star anise. Add cumin and fry for few seconds. Add green chillies and sliced onions and fry till it turn into golden brown colour.

Add Rice and mix well for few seconds. Add required salt.
Jeera Rice Recipe Step 3
Add 1.5 cups of water and close the cooker. Pressure cook in low flame for 2 whistles. When the pressure is released, open the cooker and gently mix it well. Garnish with some chopped coriander and serve it with gravy of your choice.
