Saamai Upma Recipe

Samai upma is another addition to quick and healthy breakfast recipe. I have got lots of millets in stock and trying out different varieties of recipes using those. This upma is one such simple recipe. It can be prepared in just 20 minutes. The preparation method is almost similar to the usual upma recipe except for the thing that the little millet has to be soaked for atleast 15 minutes. It tastes great when served hot with some spicy chutney.

Little Millet Upma Recipe

Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time : 15 – 20 Minutes
Serves : 2
Ingredients
Samai 1/2 Cup (Heaped
Onion 1 No (Chopped)
Green Chillies 1 No
Curry Leaves A Sprig
Ginger (Optional) A Small Piece
Carrot 2 Tablespoons (Chopped)
Mustard 1 Teaspoon
Channa Dhal 2 Teaspoons
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon

Preparation Method
Wash the samai atleast 3- 4 times and soak them for 15 minutes. Drain the water and keep it ready. Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard and allow it to splutter. Add channa dhal and let it fry for few seconds.

Add Curry leaves, green chillies, onion, ginger and fry for 2 minutes. Add required salt.
Samai Upma Recipe Step 2
Add chopped carrots and saute for a minute. Then add around 1 cup + 1/4 Cup of water and bring it to boil.
Samai Upma Recipe Step 3
When the water is boiling well, add the samai. Mix well and reduce the flame and cook covered for 10 minutes. Keep stirring now and then inbetween. Cook till the samai becomes soft. Turn off the flame and serve hot with spicy chutney or sauce of your choice.
