Vegetable Samosa Recipe

samosas are my hubby’s favorite snack. So I used to make it once a while with different type of stuffing. This version is prepared using a basic potato masala. I made the dough using equal proportion of wheat flour and plain flour. However, the same can be made with either wheat flour or plain flour. This samosas tastes great when served hot. Enjoy munching hot hot samosas as evening snack with a cup of tea or coffee.

Samosa Recipe

Preparation Time : 15 Minutes
Cooking Time : 40 Minutes
Yields : 10 Nos


Plain Flour 1/2 Cup
Wheat Flour 1/2 Cup
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Teaspoon

For Masala

Potato 2 Nos
Onion 1 No
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Chilli Powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Garam Masala 1/2 Teaspoon
Cilantro Leaves 1 Tablespoon
Lemon Juice few Drops
Oil 1 Teaspoon + Oil for Frying
Cumin Seeds 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste

Preparation Method

Boil Potatoes, peel off the skin and mash them and keep it ready. Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot add cumin seeds. When it splutters, add chopped onion and fry them for a minute.

Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and salt. Mix well.

Add mashed potato and mix well. Cook for a minute or two and then turn off the flame. Finally add chopped coriander leaves and then add lemon juice and give it a mix. Allow it to cool down and split the masala into equal sized balls.

In a bowl, mix wheat flour, plain flour, salt. Add water little by little and knead it to a smooth dough. Finally add oil and knead it again.

Split them into small sized balls. Take a ball and press it using a rolling pin. Cut them into halves. Wet the straight end with water and them fold it and bring it to the center.

Bring the other half to the center. Stuff the masala and then seal the corners by pressing gently.

Prepare all the samosas. Heat a pan and add oil sufficient enough for frying. When the oil is hot, drop the samosas gently into the oil. Fry till it turns into golden brown, then drain the oil and transfer it to a plate. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
