Multigrain String Hopper Recipe
My mom has sent me lots of sathu Maavu. At times I used to prepare kanji or sathu maavu urundai. For a change, I attempted to make string hopper with sathu maavu. The result was too good. The preparation method is exactly similar to the usual string hopper that is prepared using rice flour. Moreover this is a very healthy and nutritious breakfast / dinner recipe. It can be prepared in less time. So far, I have tried only a sweet version of it. I will soon be trying a spicy recipe too. Will post that version of string hopper soon.

Sathu Maavu Idiyappam Recipe
Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time : 10 Minutes
Serves : 2


Ingredients

Sathu Maavu 1.5 Cups
Salt A Pinch
Grated Coconut 2- 3 Tablespoons
Sugar 1- 2 Teaspoons
Ghee (Optional) 1 Teaspoon
Oil 1 Teaspoon

Preparation Method
Measure 2 cups of sathu Maavu and add oil, salt and mix everything together. Heat around 1 cup of water and pour in to to the flour little by little and mix well. Use only required quantity of water.

Make sure that the flour is mixed with the sufficient water and the dough is knead to a form where it is not sticking to the hand and also it is soft.

I used murukku press with this small holes mould for this idiyappam.Make the dough in the form of cylinder and load them into the idiyappam press.

Before pressing the idiyappam, grease the idly plate with a drop of oil. Then Press the idiyappam in a round shape in each of the provision in the idly plate. Add some water to the idly vessel and place the idly plate into it.Close the idly vessel and allow it to cook for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, take out the idly plate immediately. Do not leave it for long time.

Using a spoon take out the cooked idiyappam and transfer them to a plate. Quickly break the strings and have it ready. When it is hot, pour a tablespoon of ghee, desiccated coconut, sugar and mix them well.
