Prawn Kuzhambu Recipe

I am posting a non vegetarian recipe after a while. I decided to cook prawns for lunch yesterday. I was in a dilemma whether to make prawn fry or prawn thokku. At the same time, I thought of having a gravy out of it so that I can have it along with rice or with idlies or dosa. This is a truly delicious gravy recipe and while cooking this, the aroma was too good that I couldn’t wait to taste this. Going forward, this will be another favorite recipe in my menu list. Adding freshly ground coconut paste gives a nice consistency and enhances the taste of the gravy. Enjoy this creamy prawn kuzhambu with hot steamed rice or idly or dosas.

Prawn Gravy Recipe

Prawn Kuzhambu Recipe
Preparation Time : 15 Minutes
Cooking Time : 20 – 30 Minutes
Serves : 3- 4

Ingredients

Prawns 150 Grams
Ginger garlic green chilly paste 1 Teaspoon
Shallots 5 – 7 Nos (Chopped)
Garlic 5 Pods
Tomatoes 2 Nos (Chopped)
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon
Coriander Powder 2 Teaspoons
Garam Masala Powder 1/2 Teaspoon
Coconut 1 – 2 Tablespoons
Fennel Seeds 1/2 Teaspoon
Coriander Leaves Little for garnishing
Salt To Taste
Oil 1/2 Tablespoon

To Temper

Cinnamon A Small Stick
Cloves 3 Nos
Bay Leaves 1 No
Black Stone Flower 1 No
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves A Strig

Preparation Method
Clean the prawns and Wash them couple of times. Marinate the prawns with little turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt and let it remain for 5 – 10 minutes.

Grind cocontut and fennel seeds to a fine paste and keep it ready.

Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add the items mentioned under “ To Temper” table. Once tempering is done, add garlic and fry them for few seconds. Then add chopped onions and fry till it becomes translucent. Add ginger garlic and green chilly paste and fry till the raw smell goes off.

Add chopped tomatoes, and cook by adding required salt. Add turmeric, chilli and coriander powder and mix well.

Add the marinated prawns and cook for 3 – 5 Minutes. Once the prawn starts to release water, add around 1/2 of water and bring it to boil.

When the gravy is boiling well, add the ground coconut paste and mix well. Start cooking for somemore time.

When the gravy has reached a creamy consistency, sprinkle some garam masala and mix well. Finally garnish with chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame. Serve hot with rice or idly or dosa.
