Easy Ghee Rice Recipe

Ghee rice recipe is vey simple and a quick one to make. But somehow I did not make it till now, though I had it in my mind since very long. Finally attempted to make it this weekend. It’s a super easy recipe and goes well with some spicy curry. On that I prepared mushroom korma and Crispy okra fry as sides. The whole platter turned out so good. Will post the recipes for the korma and okra fry in the upcoming days.

Ghee Rice Recipe

Preparation Time : 5 Minutes
Cooking Time : 15 Minutes
Serves : 2


Basmati Rice 1 Cup
Onion 1 No (Chopped)
Green Chillies 1 No (Slit Lengthwise)
Ghee 2 Tablespoons
Cinnamon 1 Small Stick
Cloves 2 Nos
Bay Leaves 1 No
Cardamom 2 Nos
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Teaspoon
Chopped Ginger Garlic 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Cashews 10 Nos (Optional)

Preparation Method

Wash the basmati rice and soak them for 15 minutes. Drain the water and keep it aside. In a pressure cooker, add ghee and once it is hot, add bayleaves, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and fennel seeds. Once it crackles, add green chillies and fry for few seconds.

Add onion and fry till it becomes translucent, then add chopped ginger and garlic. Fry till the raw smell goes off.

Add the soaked rice and fry for less than a minute. Then add around 1.5 cups of water and mix well.

Add required salt and close the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles. After the pressure is released, open the cooker and gently fluff the rice with a fork. If required, it can be garnished with ghee roasted cashew while serving. Serve hot with spicy curry of your choice.
