Poricha Meen Kuzhambu Recipe

I tried this poricha meen kuzhambu recipe for the first time. I heard about this recipe from one of my friends. She used to say that her grandmother is an expert in cooking this fried fish curry. So I thought of making it sometime and here it comes. Adding fried fish to the gravy makes the fish firm and unlike the usual fish gravy, they don’t break easily. Moreover leave sometime before this fish curry is served so that the gravy is absorbed by the fried fish. This kuzhambu tastes quite different from the regular fish kuzhambu and we both liked it so  much.

Fried Fish Curry Recipe

Poricha Meen Kuzhambu Recipe
Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time       : 20 Minutes
Serves   : 3


Fish 300 Grams
Shallots 10 – 15 Nos
Tomato 1 No
Tamarind Small Lemon Sized
Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon
Coriander Powder 2 Teaspoons
Garlic 2 Pods
Fenugreek 1/4 Teaspoon
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Teaspoon
Lemon Juice 1/2 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves A Strig
Salt To Taste
Sesame Oil / Gingely Oil 1 Tablespoon

Preparation Method
Clean the fish and marinate them with a mixture of lemon juice, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt. Let it remain for 5 minutes. Heat a tawa and add oil. Once it is hot, place the marinated fish pieces and fry them on both the sides for 5 – 7 minutes. Keep the fried fishes aside.

Soak tamarind and extract thick tamarind juice. Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add fenugreek, fennel seeds and allow it to fryAdd chopped garlic and saute  for few seconds.Add curry leaves to it.

Add chopped onion and fry till it turns into light brown colour.

Add turmeric powder. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till the oil starts leaving the sides of the pan.

Add chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and mix well.

Add the tamarind extract and bring it to boil.

Add the water to your required consistency and bring it to boil.

When the gravy becomes little thicker and boiling well, drop the  washed fish pieces one by one. Reduce the flame to medium and cook till the fish gets cooked. Just before turning off the flame, add the chopped curry leaves and give it a mix for extra flavour.
