Mochai Masala Recipe

Mochai is our family’s favorite. In India we used to get this in green as well as in Black. Both tastes great. Mochai Pirattal is a must do recipe during pongal festival at home. Its been more than a year since I tasted this as we do not get this in our place. Last week, when I was looking at the frozen section in the Indian Store, happened to see this lima beans. Got really excited and grabbed one right away. Couldn’t wait to try that out, so planned to make it the very next day. Feels really good to taste my most favorite recipe after a years time. I can happily mix this mochai pirattal with hot rice and have it. It tastes every more delicious with a teaspoon of ghee added to it. It goes well with sambar, rasam, dhal or curd rice.

At times, I used to have this with Venpongal as well. The aroma that comes out when cooking this beans is just awesome. From now on, this recipe will be added on to my regular cooking menu. I decided that I should make it atleast once or twice a month.

Lima Beans Masala Recipe

 

Mochai Pirattal Recipe
Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time       : 20 Minutes
Serves     : 3 

Ingredients

Pachai Mochai | Lima Beans 150 Grams
Onion 1 No
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Curry Leaves A Strig
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon
Coriander Powder 1 Teaspoon
Fennel Seeds Powder 1/4 Teaspoon
Mustard 1/2 Teaspoon
Fennel Seeds 1/2 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon


Preparation Method

Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard, fennel seeds and allow it to splutter. Add Curry leaves, Green chillies, onion and saute them well.

Mochai Masala Recipe Step 1Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, fennel seeds powder and mix well.
Mochai Masala Recipe Step 2 Add mochai mix well and cook for a minutes. Add little water, salt and bring it to boil till it reaches the required consistency. Turn off the flame and transfer it to a bowl.

Notes

I used frozen mochai. if you are using a fresh one, it may need to be cooked for longer time. Either you can cook them in pressure cooker and then follow the remaining steps.

A generous pinch of garam masala powder can be added for extra flavor.
