Masala Fried Fish Recipe | Fish Recipes

For me sundays will be incomplete without a non-veg meal. As fish is the most favorite for both of us, it will be our sunday lunch most of the times. When I was in chennai, we use to cook fish very often as we can buy fresh fish in the evenings. Even if no one is at home, I used to buy a small quantity for myself and make a fry out of it once I am back from work. I will never ever say NO to fish be it in fried form or gravy. Recently one of my friends told me to marinate the fish masala by adding little tamarind juice for preparing fish fry. So thought of giving it a try, and it was simply superb. Since then, I made this fry couple of times in the same way. I would love to have it as a starter rather than with rice. It can go well with sambar rice, rasam rice, Fish gravy as well.

Fish 250 Grams
Tamarind Extract 1 Tablespoon
Curry Leaves A Strig
Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon
Coriander Powder 1 Teaspoon
Black Pepper Powder 1 Teaspoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Oil 1 Tabelspoon
Salt To Taste

Preparation Method
  • Clean and wash the fish well and keep it aside.
  • Extract Tamarind juice and add all the powders to it and mix well to form a paste.
  • Coat the masala in all the fish slices well.
  • Add chopped curry leaves and mix well.Marinate the fish for atleast an hour.
  • Heat a tawa and add oil. Wait till it gets hot.

  • Drop the fish one after the other and cook it in medium flame. Wait till one side of the fish gets cooked.
  • Slowly turn it to the other side and cook till it turns into nice golden brown colour.
  • Transfer it to a plate and serve hot.

  • Instead of Tamarind juice, lemon juice can also be added.
  • Ginger garlic paste can also be added to the marination masala. It is optional.
  • Do not add more oil, if all the oil has been absorbed, just add few drops around the fish and fry them.
  • For Crispy fish fry, make the slices little thin while cutting the fish.
