Pori Urundai Recipe | Karthigai Deepam Recipes

Nel Pori Urundai is a must recipe for Karthigai Deepam in our home. My mom couriered me a small bag of this pori. I couldn’t click pictures when I prepared this on Kartihgai Deepam. So reserved half of this pori and I made this last week. Its very simple to prepare and can be stored for a weeks time.

Ingredients

Nel Pori 2 Cups
Jaggery 1/4 Cups
Cardamom Powder A Pinch
Ghee 1 Teaspoon

Preparation Method

  • Measure 2 cups of nel pori and make sure it is clean.
  • Measure powdered Jaggery and add little water. Dissolve the jaggery

  • Add Powdered cardamom and mix well.
  • Strain the Jaggery mixture to remove the impurities.
  • Heat the jaggery syrup till it reaches 2 string consistency. Keep stirring at regular intervals to avoid the syrup from getting stick to the bottom of the pan.
  • Check the consistency by dropping a drop of syrup in a small bowl of water. The jaggery will not get dissolved immediately and a syrup can be gathered together to form a small ball. That is the correct consistency.

  • At that point, turn off the flame and add the pori little by little and keep mixing.
  • Once all the pori has been added, mix well.

  • Grease your palm with ghee and take a fistful of pori and gently press them to make a ball shaped.
  • Repeat the same with all the left over mixture and make balls of equal size.

  • Allow it to cool down completely and transfer them into an air tight container and enjoy.
