Poondu Kuzhambu Recipe | Garlic Recipes

My mom makes the best poondu kuzhambu and its been my most favourite. But after marriage I did not prepare it as my hubby doesn’t like garlic flavour much. Recently I made this kuzhambu for one of our guests and my hubby a little, he liked it too. So I am happy that, this recipe has moved out of his “dislike” list. Hoping to prepare it quite frequently from now on.

Garlic 50 Grams
Fenugreek 1/4 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves A Strig
Onion 1 No (Finely chopped)
Tomato 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Tamarind 1 Small Lemon Sized
Chilli powder 1 Tablespoon
Coriander Powder 1.5 Tablespoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Salt To Taste
Oil 2 Tablespoons
Preparation Method
  • Peel the skin of garlic pods and keep it ready.
  • Soak the tamarind in water for 15 minutes and extract a thick juice out of it and keep it aside.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add fenugreek.
  • After it splutters, add garlic and fry them till it changes to light brown colour.
  • Add curry leaves, onion  and saute them for 2 minutes.

  • Add tomato and after it becomes mushy, add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder& salt and mix well.
  • Once the oil starts oozing out, add the tamarind extract.
  • Add water to a required consistency and allow it to boil till the raw tamarind smell goes off.
  • Transfer it to the bowl and serve.
