Sweet Potato Tikki Recipe / Snack Recipes

When I went for vegetables shopping last weekend, I saw sweet potatoes. By looking at its pink colour, I was tempted to grab a small bag of it. But did not use it the whole week, as I never tried not tasted sweet potatoes. All I have heard of is to simply boil and eat as it already has sweet taste. That didn’t sound interesting to me and I kept postponing thinking of what to make with it. One evening my hubby asked me to make cutlet. For a change I prepared tikki with sweet potatoes instead of the usual potatoes. I did not use breadcrumbs and replaced it with fine semolina. The tikki turned out to be crispy with mild sweetness as I added little masala to it. On the whole, its just a mixture of sweet and spiciness. I still have couple of sweet potatoes left and hoping to try few other recipes with them.

Sweet Potatoes 2 Medium sized

Preparation Method
  • Boil the sweet potatoes, peel off the skin and mash them well.

  • To that add green chillies, ginger and cilantro.
  • Add Cumin seeds, salt, mango powder and mix everything together.
  • Add semolina and mix it again well.
  • Divide the mixture into equal proportions and make them into balls and press them gently to form a round shape or any shape of your choice.
  • In a wide tawa, add a tablespoon of oil and add the patties one after the other and cook till one side changes to nice golden brown colour.

  • Then turn it to the other side and cook till it turns to golden brown colour.
