Vazhaikkai Kulambu Recipe
My mom used to make this quite often and I just love it. Got this recipe from her. Pulikuzhambu with Vazhaikai has a special taste. Its tastes even better when it is served after 2 – 3 hours of cooking.

Rawbanana Gravy Recipe

Raw Banana 1 No
Mustard 1/4 Teaspoon
Urad Dhal 1/4 Teaspoon
Fenugreek 1/4 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves A Strig
Onion 1 No (Finely chopped)
Tomato 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Tamarind 1 Small Lemon Sized
Chilli powder 1 Tablespoon
Coriander Powder 1.5 Tablespoon
Cumin Powder 1 Teaspoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Salt To Taste
Oil 2 Tablespoons

Preparation Method
  • Wash and peel the skin of the raw banana and cut into equal size pieces and soak them in a bowl of water for 5 minutes.
  • Soak the tamarind in water for 15 minutes and extract a thick juice out of it and keep it aside.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard, urad dhal and fenugreek.
  • After it splutters, add curry leaves, chopped onion and saute them for 2 minutes.

  • Add tomato and after 3 minutes, add chilli powder, turmeric powder, Cumin Powder, coriander powder& salt and mix well.
  • Once the oil starts oozing out, drain the water and add the raw banana.
  • Give a quick stir and then add the tamarind extract.
  • Add water to a required consistency and allow it to boil till the raw tamarind smell goes off.
  • Transfer it to the bowl and serve.
