Gobi Manchurian Recipe | Cauliflower Manchurian

Gobi Manchurian is one of the most favourite recipes for everyone in our family. This is my second attempt on preparing this recipe. I tried this a year back and it turned out extremely hot as I added more chilli powder. So this time I was very cautious in adding green chillies and chilli powder. Finally it was tasting too good as all the ingredients were added at the right proportion. I served this with Peas Pulav.

For Gobi fry
Cauliflower florets 2 cups
Corn Flour 1 Teaspoons
Rice Flour 2 Teaspoons
All Purpose flour / Maida 2 Teaspoons
Ginger- garlic- Green chilli paste 1/2 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Oil For Frying
For Sauce
Garlic Pods 3 – 4 Nos
Onion 1 No
Spring onions 3 Nos
Green Chillies 1 No
Chilli Powder 1 Teaspoon
Soy sauce 2 Teaspoons
Tomato Sauce 2 Teaspoons
Chilli Sauce 1 Teaspoon
Lemon juice / Vinegar 1 Teaspoon
Salt To Taste
Gingely/ Sesame oil 1/2 Tablespoon
Preparation Method
  • Wash the cauliflower florets and soak them in hot water for 5 – 7 minutes by adding little salt.
  • Drain the water completely and keep it aside.
  • In a bowl, mix corn flour, rice flour, all purpose flour, ginger- garlic – green chilly paste, salt by adding little water to form a thick paste.
  • Add the cauliflower florets into this mixture and mix them well so that it gets coated uniformly.
  • Heat oil in a pan and once it is hot, add the coated cauliflower florets and fry them till it turns golden brown color.

  • Fry all the cauliflower florets in batches and keep it ready.
  • In another pan add gingely oil / Sesame oil. Once it is hot add the chopped garlic and fry them for few seconds.
  • Add chopped onion and the white potion of the spring onion and saute them well.

  • Add finely chopped green chillies and saute them till the onion get translucent.
  • Add chilli powder, salt, soy sauce, chilli sauce, tomato sauce, lemon juice and mix them well. Keep the flame littler higher and cook for a minute.
  • Add water to a required consistency and bring it to boil.

  • Once it is boiling well, add the fried cauliflower florets and mix well and cook for 1 –2 minutes and then finally sprinkle some spring onions (Green part).
  • Transfer to a plate and serve.

  • It can be served either dry or in a gravy. Just adjust the consistency of the sauce by adding water based on the preferred form of this manchurian (Dry/ gravy).
