Drumstick leaves poriyal has always been my favourite. Unfortunately I see it very rarely in the stores here. But whenever it captures my sight, I never fail to grab a bunch of it. Other than poriyal, we can make kootu, adai. My mom adds it when she makes ragi roti. Drumstick leaves has a special flavour which adds taste to adai and roti. I have also heard that drumstick leaves can be added while preparing ghee from butter which enhances the flavour of the ghee. But I am yet to try that.
Here is the simple  and a very healthy recipe!!
Murungakeerai Poriyal Recipe

Ingredients
Drumstick Leaves 1 Bunch
Red Chillies 2 Nos
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Mustard 1/2 Teaspoon
Urad Dhal 1/2 Teaspoon
Grated coconut 2 Tablespoons
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon


Preparation Method
  • Remove the leaves from the stalk and wash the leaves thoroughly and drain the water. Keep it aside.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it gets hot, add mustard and Urad dhal.
  • Allow it to splutter and then add red chillies and onion and saute them for 2 minutes.

  • Then add the drumstick leaves and cook till the water evaporates completely.
  • Add salt and cook for 3 – 5 minutes.

  • Finally add the grated coconut, mix it well and turn off the flame.
