So far I have always had Poha/ Flattened rice in the form of sweets. Never tried spicy version of it. Today I thought, why not give it a try? Its very simple and it can be served for breakfast or as snack. I got one more addition to my breakfast recipes.
Here is the recipe…
Ingredients
Thick Poha/ Flattened rice | 1 Cup |
Ginger | A small piece (chopped) |
Green Chillies | 2 Nos |
Cardamom | 2 Nos |
Curry leaves | A Strig |
Onion | 1 no (Small) chopped |
Peanuts | 2 Tablespoons |
Mustard | 1/4 Teaspoon |
Turmeric Powder | A Pinch |
Chilli Powder | 1/4 Teaspoon |
Lemon juice | 1/4 Teaspoon |
Cilantro / Coriander Leaves | Little (chopped) |
Sugar | A Pinch |
Salt | To Taste |

Preparation Method
- Take the poha in a colander and wash it in water and have it ready. Wash the poha just before making the recipe. Do not soak it for more than 10 minutes.
- In a tawa add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard and wait for it to splutter.
- Then add the crushed cardamom.

- Add curry leaves, peanuts and fry for few seconds.
- Add ginger, green chillies, onion and saute them well.

- Add turmeric, chilli powder, salt and mix well.
- Add the poha and close it with a lid and cook for 3 - 5 minutes.

- If the poha is cooked well, then turn off the flame and add sugar, lemon juice, cilantro.
- Mix well and serve
