Mango Rice


Since this being summer, different varieties of raw mangoes are easily available in the market. When I went to the Indian store last weekend, I was excited to see the raw mangoes and grabbed couple of them. Since long time I wanted to try Mango rice. I have heard of it from one of my friends in my college. But never got a chance to taste it. When I looked for this recipe in the internet, I found it to be very easy. It hardly took 5 minutes if the rice is already cooked.
Here is the recipe


Raw Mango 1 No (Small)
Basmati Rice / Raw Rice 1 Cup
Mustard 1/4 Tablespoon
Channa Dhal 1/2 Tablespoon
Asafoetida A Pinch
Curry leaves A Strig
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Salt To Taste
Oil As Required


Preparation Method
  • Wash and cook the rice by adding 2 cups of water and spread the cooked rice on the plate and allow it to cool down.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard and wait for it to splutter.
  • Add channa dhal and fry till it turn to light brown colour.
  • Add green chillies, curry leaves, asafoetida, Turmeric powder.
  • After few seconds, add the grated mango (Either the skin can be peeled of or just grate the whole mango). I used it with the skin.

  • Add salt and turmeric powder. Mix it well.
  • After few seconds add cooked rice an mix it well.
  • Turn off the flame and transfer it to a plate.
