Coriander Idly


I entered the kitchen in an idea of making idly and some chutney. When I took out the idly batter from the refrigerator, I made up mind that I should try something different with this batter. I was thinking, how about idlies with different colour? and the very first thing striked my mind was cilantro/Coriander leaves. Trust me, it is a very simple recipe. Moreover not just the colour of the idly will be different but the flavour too. To be honest, till I tasted the first bite of it, I was little tensed about how it will taste. But, it was just awesome and we both enjoyed having this green idlies for dinner Smile.


Idly Batter 1 Cup
Coriander leaves / Cilantro A Fistful
Grated Coconut 2 Tablespoons
Green Chillies 3 Nos
Salt To Taste


Preparation Method
  • Grind the coriander leaves, coconut and green chillies to a fine paste. Add required amount of salt.

  • Add the ground paste to the idly batter and mix well so that it gets spreaded uniformly.
  • Grease the idly mould with a drop of oil.
  • Now take a laddle full of batter and pour on the idly plate.

  • Cook them in the idly vessel for 5 – 7 minutes.
  • Turn off the flame and take out the plate. Allow it to cool down for couple of minutes and then take the idly using a spoon.
