Chettinad Meen Varuval | Chettinad Fish Fry

Chettinad recipes are unique for its taste and it holds a special place in south Indian Cuisine. This recipe is one among them.


Fish 500 Grams
Onion 1 No
Garlic 3 – 5 Pods
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Cumin Seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Pepper 1/4 Tablespoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Chilli Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Coriander Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Oil As Required


Preparation Method
  • Clean and wash the fish thoroughly around 4 – 5 times.
  • Grind all the ingredients mentioned in the table above to a fine paste.

  • Coat the fish slices with ground masala.
  • Marinate the fish for atleast 30 mins – 1 hour.
  • Heat a tawa and pour a tablespoon of oil.
  • Place the fishes on the tawa. Fry them till one side gets cooked. Then slowly turn back and wait till the other side gets cooked. If required, add oil little by little.

  • When both the sides are cooked well, then turn off the flame and transfer them to a plate and serve.
