Vegetable Samosa 1

My hubby has been asking me for about 2 months that If I know to make samosas. I kept saying yes, I do!.. But somehow didn’t make it for him till last week. Finally thought of giving him a surprise one evening and I prepared it. Thank god, it came out really well. He was very much impressed with the taste.

For Masala

Potato 1 No
Onion 1 No
Green Peas 1 Tablespoon
Peanuts 2 Tablespoons
Ginger A small Piece
Turmeric powder A Pinch
Chilli powder 1/4 Tablespoon
Garam Masala Little (less than 1/4 Tablespoon)
Coriander leaves/Cilantro A Fistfu
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon

For Dough

Sooji/Rava 1/4 Cup
Maida/All Purpose flour/Plain Flour 1 Cup
Salt To Taste
Oil For deep frying

Preparation Method

For Masala
  1. Boil the potato and peel off the skin and mash them well.
  2. Heat a pan and add oil. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped ginger and chopped onion and saute them well.
  3. Add a pinch of turmeric powder. Then add the peanuts and greenpeas.
  4. Cook them for 3 minutes.
  5. Add chilli powder, salt and then add the mashed potatoes.
  6. Mix well for 3 minutes. Add garam masala and finely chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Turn off the flame and transfer it to a bowl and let it cool down.
For Dough
  1. Mix sooji and maida together. Add required salt and mix them well.
  2. Add oil and after mixing it up. add water and knead the dough till it becomes soft.
  3. Set it aside for 30 minutes by covering it with a lid.

Samosa Preparation
  1. After 30 minutes, split the dough into equal sized balls.
  2. Roll it to a circle shape using the rolling pin.
  3. Cut the circle into two halves by using the knife.
  4. Wet the straight side of the semicircle with water for sealing.
  5. Make a cone shape out of it.
  6. Place little masala into the cone and seal it well to get a triangle shaped samosa.
  7. Make similar samosas with all the remaining dough balls and have it ready.
  8. Heat a pan and add enough oil for frying the samosas.
  9. Once it is hot, drop the samosas one by one into the hot oil and fry them till it turns golden brown colour on both the sides.
  10. Finally transfer it to a plate after draining the excess oil and serve with tomato ketchup.
