Banana Blossom vadai

Whenever we buy Vazhaipoo (Banana Blossom), I always reserve a portion of it for vada. It is one of the best tea time snack.


Channa Dhal 1 Cup
Banana Blossom (Florets) 1/4 Cup (Finely Chopped)
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Curry Leaves A Strig
Red Chillies 2 –3 Nos
Cumin seeds 1/2 Tablespoon
Asafoetida A Pinch
Salt To Taste
Oil For deep frying

Preparation Method
  1. Wash and soak the channa dhal in water for around 2 hours. Drain the water completely and grind them to a coarse mixture by adding red chillies.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add cut banana blossom florets, onion, Asafoetida, cumin seeds, curry leaves & salt, Mix the contents well.
  3. Split them into equal sized balls.
  4. Heat a pan and add sufficient oil for deep frying.
  5. Press the balls gently to make a round shape.
  6. Once the oil is hot, drop the vadas to the oil and fry them till it changes to a nice golden brown colour on both the sides.
  7. Take of the vada and draining the oil completely and transfer to a place for serving.
