Tomato Kuzhambu Recipe
Bored of usual sambar and Kuzhambu? Here is another delicious gravy made of Tomato. The Tomato Gravy recipe is quick and easy. It goes well with steamed rice, idly, dosa, rotisiDuring the busy morning hours, if I don’t have time to cut vegetables, this one will be my option as it can be prepared in a short span of time. Moreover as this can be served for dosas or idlies, it becomes a 2 in 1 option for me as I need not prepare separate chutney for breakfast.
Tomato Gravy Recipe

Thakkali Kuzhambu Recipe
Preparation Time : 10 Minutes
Cooking Time      : 20 Minutes
Serves  : 3

Ingredients

Tomato 4 Nos
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Coconut 2 Tablespoons
Cashew Nut 5 Nos
Poppy Seeds 1/2 Tablespoon
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Black Stone Flower/Kalpasi 3 Nos
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Chilli Powder 1/4 Tablespoon
Coriander Powder 1/4 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Oil As Required
Curry Leaves A Strig

Preparation Method

Boil the tomatoes in water for 7 – 10 minutes. Then Peel off the skin and grind the tomatoes well.

Grind coconut, cashew nuts, poppy seeds to a fine paste.

    In a pan heat oil, and add fennel seeds, Black stone flower.

    Add green chillies, onion and sauté them well for 2 minutes. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry for few seconds.

Add the tomato extract and mix everything well.Bring the mixture to boil by adding required salt and water.

After 3- 5 minutes, add the ground paste to the boiling mixture. Reduce the flame and cook for 2 minutes and then turn off. Transfer to the bowl for serving.

Notes

Adding freshly chopped curry leaves after turning off the flame, gives a good flavor to the gravy.

Instead of curry leaves, freshly chopped coriander leveas can also be added if you prefer.
