Simple Dhal Recipe | Dhal Tadka


Dhal tadka is my all time favourite food. This is the first recipe I made when I started cooking. I just love to have it with potato fry. Even these days, I used to make this combo whenever I wanted to finish off cooking fast.


Moong Dhal 1 Cup
Onion 1 small no (Chopped)
Turmeric powder A Pinch
Cumin Seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Red chillies 3 nos
Mustard 1/2 Tablespoon
Asafoetida A Pinch
Salt To taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon

Preparation Method
  • Wash the dhal and add 1.5 cups of water. Also add onion, cumin seeds, turmeric powder.
  • Cook it in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles. Can also cook in a sauce pan.

  • Once it is cooked, add required salt.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add red chillies and asafoetida.
  • Transfer the tempered items to the dhal and mix well.
  • Curry leaves can also be added while tempering.
