Simple Chicken Briyani Recipe | Briyani Recipe


Here is a simple version of chicken briyani cooked in a pressure cooker.


Basmati Rice 1 Cup
Chicken Drumstick 2 Nos
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Tomato 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Ginger Garlic Paste 1 Tablespoon
Mint Leaves A Fistful
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro A Fistful
Salt To Taste
Oil 2 Tablespoons

For Marination

Curd 2 Tablespoons
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Chilli Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Corainder Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Garam Masala 1/4 Tablespoon
Ginger Garlic Paste 1/4 Tablespoon

For Tempering

Bay Leaves 1 No
Cinnamon 1 Stick
Cardamom 2 Nos
Cloves 4 Nos
Anise 1 No
Fennel Seeds 1/2 Tablespoon


Preparation Method
  • Wash the chicken and make few slits.
  • Mix all the ingredients mentioned under “ For Marination” table and add the chicken to it and coat it well with the masala.
  • Marinate the chicken atleast for an hour.
  • In a pressure cooker, add oil. Once it is hot add all the ingredients mentioned under “ For tempering” table and wait till they crackle.
  • Add green chillies, onion and saute for couple of minutes.

  • Add Ginger garlic paste and fry them till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add tomatoes and cook till they become mushy.
  • Add the marinated chicken and mix everything together.

  • Add Chopped Mint leaves and cilantro and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 5 – 7 minutes.

  • Open the cooker and add rice and around 1.5 cups of water. Also add required salt.
  • Close the cooker and cook for 1 whistle.
  • Open the cooker and the tasty briyani is ready to serve.

  1. Do you have recommendation to cook without a pressure cooker?

  2. ofcourse! Pressure cooker can be replaced with a thick bottomed sauce pan. The only difference is to soak the rice in water for around 15 minutes and add around 2 cups of water while cooking it. It is important to close the sauce pan with a lid after adding the rice to it.
