Dry lentils pirattal

This recipe is the best side dish for rasam. It can be prepared relatively fast and tastes really well.


Dried Mochai 1 Cup
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Curry Leaves 1 Strig
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Tablespoon
Chilli Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Fennel Seeds
1/4 Tablespoon
Mustard 1/4 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon

Preparation Method
  1. Wash and soak the dried mochai in water for 6 – 8 hours.
  2. Drain the excess water and pressure cook them with little water by adding salt.
  3. Heat a pan, add a tablespoon of oil. Add mustard and fennel seeds, wait for it to splutter.
  4. Add curry leaves and onion and saute them well for 2 minutes.
  5. Add Turmeric, Chilli powder and salt.
  6. Add very little water and when it comes to boil, add the boiled mochai and mix well.
  7. Cook for 3 –5 minutes, till the masala coats the mochai.
  8. Transfer it to the serving bowl and serve with hot rice and rasam.
