Greengram Soup | Mung bean | Moong bean Soup


It was raining last evening and I felt like having something hot. I tried a soup with greengram and it was a superhit. Greengram is very nutritious as it is rich in proteins. It was very filling too. After tasting this, I am thinking of making this soup quite frequently.
Greengram/Mungbean 1/2 Cup
Garlic 3 Pods
Green chilli 1 No
Tomato 1 No (Finely chopped)
Cumin Seeds/Jeera 1/2 Tablespoon
Besan/Gram flour 1 Tablespoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Ghee/Butter 1 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Pepper To Taste


Preparation Method
  • Wash the greengram and either pressure cook or cook them in a pan.
  • Mash them well and add 1 cup of water and bring it to boil.

  • Grind garlic and green chillies and little cumin seeds.
  • Heat a pan and add ghee. Once it is hot, add the ground mixture and fry them well.

  • Add besan/gram flour, turmeric powder and fry for few second.
  • Add cumin seeds and fry for a minute.

  • Add chopped tomatoes and mix them together for 2 minutes.
  • Add the mixture to the boiling moong bean/green gram and mix everything together.

  • Add salt to taste and let it boil for 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Transfer it to a bowl and sprinkle pepper powder and serve.
