Country style Chicken curry | Kozhi Kuzhambu Recipe | Chicken Recipes


Chicken gravy can be prepared in numerous ways and here I have tried it in village style and the taste was simply superb. Perfect for rotis, idly, dosa, rice and briyani.


Chicken 500 Grams
Onion 1 No
Tomato 1 No
Green chillies 2 Nos
Bay leaves 1 No
Mustard 1/4 Tablespoon
Turmeric Powder A Pinch
Chilli Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Coriander Powder 1 Tablespoon
Ginger Garlic Paste 1/2 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Gingely oil/ Sesame oil 1 Tablespoon

To grind

Balck Pepper 1/4 Tablespoon
Fennel Seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Cumin seeds 1/4 Tablespoon
Cinnamon 1 Stick
Cloves 5 Nos
Anise 1 No
Poppy seeds 1/2 Tablespoon
Grated Coconut 2 Tablespoon
Onion 1/2 No

Preparation Method
  • Dry roast all the ingredients mentioned under “To grind” table  except coconut, onion and poppy seeds.

  • Cool them down and grind by adding coconut,onion and poppy seeds to a fine paste and keep it ready.

  • Heat a pan and add oil Once it is hot, add mustard. When it starts to splutter, add bay leaves.
  • Add green chillies, onion and saute them well.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and fry them till the raw smell goes off.

  • Add tomatoes and cook them till it becomes mushy.

  • Add turmeric, chilli and coriander powder and mix it together.
  • After a minute, add the washed chicken and mix well for couple of minutes.

  • Add required water and salt and close the pan and cook the mixture for 10 minutes.

  • When the gravy starts boiling, add the ground mixture. Stir well and cook for 7 – 10 minutes till the chicken is cooked well.
