Chow Chow Kootu | Chayote Kootu


This recipe goes well with any karakuzhambu and rice.


Chow Chow 1 No
Onion 1 No (Finely Chopped)
Curry leaves A Strig
Green Chillies 2 Nos
Grated Coconut 3 Tablespoons
Cumin Seeds 1/2 Tablespoon
Mustard 1/4 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste
Oil 1 Tablespoon


 Preparation Method
  • Was the chayote, peel of the skin and remove the seed. Cut them into equal sized pieces.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once it is hot, add mustard, cumin seeds. Once it splutters, add curry leaves, onion and saute them well.
  • After 2 minutes, add the cut vegetable and cook for 3 minutes.

  • To the cooked chayote, add salt, 1/2 cup of water and bring it to boil.
  • Grind grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds to a fine paste by adding little water

  • When the chayote is almost cooked, add the ground mixture. Cook for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Turn off the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl.
