Broken Wheat | Kothumai Rava Upma

Broken wheat upma is one of my hubby’s favourites. It is healthy diet and tasted really good with powdered jaggery.

Broken wheat 1 Cup
Channa Dhal 1 Tablespoon
Urad Dhal 1/2 Tablespoon
Curry Leaves 1 Strig
Greenchillies 2 Nos (Finely Chopped)
Ginger A small piece (Finely chopped)
Onion 1 No (Finely chopped)
Mustard 1/4 Tablespoon
Oil 2 Tablespoon
Salt To Taste

Preparation Method

  • Dry roast the broken wheat till it turns its colour lightly. It can also be roasted with a tablespoon of ghee if preferred.
  • Heat a pan and add oil. Once the oil is hot, add mustard.
  • After it splutters, add channa dhal, urad dhal and fry them till they turn to golden brown colour.
  • Then add curry leaves, green chillies, ginger and onion and saute them well.

  • Once the onion starts turning to light brown colour, add 3.5 cups of water.
  • Add salt and mix well. Allow it to boil.
  • Add theBrken wheat to the bolining mixture by constant mixing.

  • Keep stirring constantly for 10- 12 minutes.
  • Once the broken wheat is cooked completely, trun off the flame and transfer it to serving bowl.
