Aloo Paratha 1

Aloo Paratha is an Indian flat whaet bread stuffed with the curry made of potato and Onion. This recipe basically originated from North India and has become a very common these days. Whenever I get bored of plain rotis,I used to make stuffed paratha. I feel this to be a very filling diet. Aloo Parathas can be served with raitha, Kuruma, Tomato Ketchup.
Here comes the recipe!
For Masala
Potato 1 No (Medium size)
Onion 1 No (Medium Size – Finely Chopped)
Cumin Seeds 1 Tablespoon
Coriander leaves/Cilantro 1 Fistful (Finely Chopped)
Chilli Powder 1/2 Tablespoon
Turmeric Powder A pinch
Oil As required
Salt To taste
For Paratha
Wheat Flour (Atta) 1 Cup
Oil As required
Salt To taste
Preparation Method
For Masala
  1. Boil the potato, peel off the skin and mash it well without any lumps.
  2. Heat a tawa and oil a tablespoon of oil to it.
  3. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds. When it starts spluttering add the chopped onions.
  4. After the onion turns to slightly brown colour, reduce the flame and add salt,turmeric & chilli powder and mix well.
  5. After a minute, add the mashed potato and mix well. Leave it for 2 – 3 minutes.
  6. Finally add chopped coriander and turn off the flame.
  7. Transfer it to a bowl and let it cool down.
  8. Make the masala into equal sized balls.
Aloo Paratha 2
For Paratha
  1. Take a cup of wheat flour, add salt and a tablespoon of oil and mix it well.
  2. Knead the flour by adding enough water till the dough becomes soft.
  3. Close the container and leave it aside for atleast 30 minutes before making paratha.
  4. After 30 minutes, knead the dough again for couple of minutes and split them into equal sized balls.
  5. Press the balls to a flat circle using the rolling pin after dusting it with little wheat flour.
  6. Place the masala in the centre of the paratha, close it carefully and again press it gently using the rolling pin.
  7. Heat a tawa, transfer the stuffed paratha and add sprinkle some oil.
  8. Wait for a minute and turn it to the other side for it to get cooked.
  9. Finally transfer it to a plate.
  10. It can be served  either as a whole or it can be cut into 4 pieces.

  1. After placing the masala balls, press very gently using rolling pin so that the masala doesn’t come out.
  2. Avoid turning the paratha frequently.Doing so can make the paratha little harder. Wait for one side to get cooked before turning it to the other side.
  3. Ghee can be added instead of oil.
  4. Do not add any water while preparing masala.
